Tucson, AZ – Metropia Inc.’s Founder and CEO Yi-Chang Chiu will lead a workshop on SMART mobility technologies sponsored by the Urban Dynamics Institute at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and the Department of Energy (DOE).
The Oak Ridge SMART Mobility Workshop is a 2-day intensive forum, gathering together experts on the subject from government, academia, and transportation industries to explore mobility issues involving automated, connected, and shared smart technologies and their impact on transportation frameworks and travel demand. Conversations will include advancements in mobility to create energy-efficient transportation methods, adaptability and efficiency of smart technologies, as well as a reduction of harmful emissions.
Metropia Inc. has been creating smart and effective mobility solutions which have been implemented in cities across the country, increasing not only urban mobilization via the mobile-platform Metropia app, but also incentivizing commuters to choose alternate modes of transportation and decrease natural traffic congestion with informed route planning and social carpooling.
Convened by a consortium of laboratories including the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Idaho National Laboratory, the SMART Mobility Workshop’s focus is to examine current challenges, emerging smart technologies and mobility solutions, and future technologies to conceptualize a framework for pathways forward to create modern and longstanding transportation models in the near-future.
Speaking at the Advancing Theoretical Frameworks Workshop, Dr. Chiu will discuss how connected technologies like the Metropia app utilize real-time traffic data to enable commuters to choose smart planning and alternate routes to get where they are going quickly and efficiently, and the role and effects that smart technologies have on overall transportation models.
The SMART Mobility Workshop will be held at the Oak Park National Observatory, November 17 & 18, 2016 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. For more information about the workshop, please visit https://udi.ornl.gov/content/smart-mobility-workshop.
